With July and summer about to be in our rear-view, it’s time for parents and families to start thinking about going back to school. The transition to school from fun, care-free summers can be a tough one for children and parents! There are some key tips to keep everyone healthy during this stressful season.
Back To School Health Tips
Immunizations – Make sure your children are up to date on their shots. Some Charleston schools will not allow children to attend without the proper vaccinations.
Annual Physical – Before school is also a great time for a child’s annual check-up. We can perform these general health physicals to ensure your child is healthy going into the school year, as well as be able to participate in school sports.
Washing Hands – Children can easily spread germs to one another, by sharing toys, not covering up when they cough, and more. According to the Mayo Clinic, washing hands is one of the simplest ways to prevent the spread of germs. Teach your kids to wash their hands after they use the bathroom, play outside, or blow their nose and before they eat!
Bed Time & Schedules – Help your family get into the routine by reinstating regular bedtimes! Staying up late and sleeping in is a great part of summer, but it can make it hard for kids to wake up in time for school.
Healthy Meals – Boost your family’s health with healthful balanced meals with a variety of fruits and veggies. Breakfast is one of the most important meals for kid’s to help them stay focused in school all day long! Combined with rest, a healthy diet can ward off infections and keep childhood obesity at bay.
Allergies – Classrooms and other children can harbor lots of potential allergens. If you notice runny noses, itchy, watery eyes, or any other allergy symptoms, talk with our on-staff allergist to create a personalized treatment plan.
